The first half has come to an end and I am gonna hand out my first half awards.
A.L. manager of the year- Buck Showalter- he has the Orioles playing way beyond their talent level. I don’t see them making the playoffs so he probably won’t win it at the end of the year.
N.L. manager of the year- Clinton Hurdle- Pirates have the second best record in the NL. This guy took the Rockies to the world series and is on track to lead the Pirates to their first winning season in over 20 years.
N.L. Rookie of the year- Bryce Harper- this kid has been everything as advertised. 5 tool player who plays the game the right way. His numbers have been very good even though he is hitting out of the 2 hole. No Brainer
A.L. Rookie of the year- Mike Trout- leading the league in batting average and steals, his first half numbers have not been seen since Ricky Henderson. He could very easily be competing for the MVP by the end of the year.
N.L. Cy Young award- R.A. Dickey- 12-1 at the break, back to back 1 hitters and he has made the Mets competitive what more can you say?
A.L. Cy Young award- Justin Verlander- JV is leading the AL in strikeouts, Complete games, innings, WHIP for a starting pitcher, what more can you ask for?
N.L. MVP- Andrew McCutchen- this guy had been on fire in the first half. Leading the NL in batting average and has a very good shot at going 30-30 and his team is in first place. No brainer.
A.L. MVP- Miguel Cabrera- this was down to Hamilton and Miggy and I give the nod to Cabrera. He has been the more consistent of the 2. Hamilton got a lot of publicity for the tear he went on in the first month of the year but he has come down a bit since and did miss games because of injury. Cabrera has stayed steady all first half and is 5th in the AL in batting average, leads the AL in hits, first in the AL in total bases, and is second in the AL in RBI’s behind Hamilton by 4. I go consistency over the hot streak.
These are my opinions and I would love to hear yours in the comment box below.
