Takeaways from Philadelphia Eagles Week 5 Win

Never a doubt! Just kidding, it took me 2 days to enjoy this victory that is why I am late with my week 5 recap of this game.

This was an emotional game for Philadelphia fans, they were never out of it, which is amazing because they couldn’t stop the run, but the defense made plays when needed. Forcing 3 Sam Darnold interceptions 2 by Slay, who celebrated the birth of his child with 2 turnovers he only allowed three catches for 13 yards on five targets. For a CB who “struggled” in 2020 he has shown up to play, while Hargrave has been a stud on the line for me its Slay who could be back to his former self, he has 21 tackles 16 solo tackles and 2 tackles for a loss to go with 2 interceptions and 3 passes defended.

But now let’s shift gears and talk about Hargrave. He is healthy and he is playing like an All-pro. Five weeks into the season are in the books, and Hargrave has added 27 total tackles (that includes seven for a loss of yardage), six sacks, and a forced fumble, we as fans questioned the signing last season, but now his signing is paying dividends and might be a steal, now some his stat may be due to Cox being double teamed, but Hargrave is 1 sack from a career high, and he has been the bright spot on a very bad run defense team.

Now onto Jalen Hurts. Despite having a terrible first half where at 1 point they were averaging 1.8 yards per pass play, PFF graded Hurts as the Eagles’ top offensive player. They gave Hurts a 79.5 overall grade with a 75.3 passing grade and a 73.3 running grade.

Hurts led the offense on a pair of touchdown drives in the second half and scored himself on play where 5 defenders went to Sanders and left Hurt by himself.

I don’t know what Sirianni’s infatuation is with making Hurts a pocket passer, but he adjusted in the 2nd half and Hurts rebounded in a big way hitting wideout Quez Watkins for a 53-yard gain to set up his first score on the ground. He showed his athleticism and made an amazing play on the move to connect with wideout DeVonta Smith on a two-point conversion to put the Eagles up 3 with 2:38 left in the game to hold onto to the win.

Now the defending champs and Tom Brady come to town this Thursday for TNF, it should be a good game, but you can’t make mistake vs the GOAT he will burn you and make you pay.
